Some recipes come from cookbooks, some from Pinterest, or my personal favorite, Grandma’s Recipe Box. And then, there are recipes like these Americana Cookies with Craisins, Dried Blueberries & White Chocolate Chips, that are chewy, sweet, and a little unexpected. These were dreamed up by my photographer, who is apparently also a cookie mastermind. He came to me and said we should make cookies with craisins, blueberries, and white chocolate chips, and I agreed. When he kept asking if I knew why, I kept staring at him blankly until he finally said red, white, and blue for the 4th of July! He told me his Mom had Americana decorations, and these cookies could bring up those same nostalgic feelings for people. Plus, they sounded absolutely delicious.
I started with the same cookie base as my Red, White & Blue Peanut M&M Cookies and folded in tart craisins, sweet dried blueberries, and creamy white chocolate chips. They turned out to be the perfect combination! Not only for flavor, but for color too! I love that they were born from nostalgia and creativity. Fair warning though: the batter is going to be very hard to just taste test. This recipe only makes 12 cookies, you’ve been warned. 😄
Quick Tips for the Best Results
- Set a little of each ingredient aside before you mix. Pressing a few craisins, dried blueberries, and white chocolate chips on top of each dough ball right before baking makes these look like they came from a bakery.
- Can’t find dried blueberries at your local store? They can be a little tricky to track down! You can grab them easily on Amazon. Once you have them in your pantry, you’ll find all kinds of ways to use them.
- Reshape your cookies straight out of the oven. If any spread unevenly, place a round cookie cutter slightly larger than the cookie over the top while still hot and swirl gently in a circular motion. They’ll nudge right into a perfect round in seconds, works like a charm every time!
- Don’t overbake. Pull the cookies from the oven when the bottoms just start to brown, even if the centers still look slightly underdone. They’ll continue cooking on the hot pan as they cool, giving you soft, chewy cookies every time!
These Americana cookies are beautiful with their rustic reds and deep blues. Perfect for a Fourth of July dessert table.
Ingredients
Method
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Microwave the butter (about 40 seconds to just melt it).
- With a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugars. Add the vanilla and egg, beat on low speed until just incorporated (10-15 seconds).
- Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Mix until crumbles form. Use your hands to press the crumbles together to make dough.
- Fold in the craisins, blueberries and white chocolate chips.
- Divide the dough and roll into 12 large balls.
- Bake for 9 - 11 minutes. The cookies will still be puffy and not look fully cooked. When you see the slightest bit of brown, pull them out and let them cool on the pan.
